The editors of The Quarterly Ephemera are always searching for new fiction, poetry, criticism, or essays. They encourage all writers, poets, critics, and essayists to contact them in offer of their services.
A few contributions are available to read elsewhere on this site, and we hope you enjoy them. They may be taken as a representative sample of the style and quality of work which we seek. If a potential contributor is still uncertain of our contents and requires a further marker of our preferences then she/he should get hold of a copy of one/all of our issues.
Please remember that it is our policy to steer clear of contemporary politics and current affairs. This does not mean to say that we will avoid comment on the underlying factors that give rise to and sustain conflict in our society and its cultures, but that any remark will be secondary to a less ephemeral though not necessarily abstract argument.
Having satisfied him/her-self that The Quarterly Ephemera's pages are suitable for his/her work the potential contributor should follow the instructions on this page.
SENDING WORK BY MAIL: If sending work by mail please consider sending by e-mail. If you must send by mail please state in your covering letter whether you require the typescript back. If you require the typescript back you must include a stamped, self-addressed envelope. Please accept our word of warning: while we are happy to read typescripts sent to us by mail we would much rather correspond by e-mail – we do like sending letters, especially as they add a not-undue sense of formality to the proceedings, but they always take longer, envelopes need to be addressed, paper folded and stamps dampened. If you do not supply an e-mail address we may not write back to you; although you may not have an e-mail address - in which case you should state as such.

SENDING WORK BY E-MAIL: Our editors' eyes have become accustomed to reading from computer screens but they still go bleary if the piece isn't one-and-a-half or double spaced, justified, and set in Times New Roman point size 10; if it isn't we'll still read it, we just might not like it so much. We prefer receiving .pdfs and .docs but won't hate you if you send .txt or .rtf - failing any of these paste it in the body of the e-mail – we remain confident, despite the condition of some submissions, that anyone wanting us to read their work will supply it in a format that gives us the most pleasure. The subject line of the e-mail must contain the title and/or a description of your work (eg. The Waist Line – a short story, Three Poems, or The Death of Language – an essay)

Response times vary but we usually have a backlog of over a hundred pieces awaiting replies –– please be patient.
